Caernarfon Castle

Caernarfon Castle was one of those rare projects that had everything -  a stunning venue, a plethora of human stories and a client open to a fresh approach to the way history can be conveyed. Following a successful tendering process, Cod Steaks found themselves shoulder-to-shoulder with the client in a joint effort to create a series of unique and informative installations within a short timescale. The challenge was made more interesting, by the need to tell the complex stories of Caernarfon in a way that was accessible to a wide range of visitor groups.

Amongst the winning ideas was 'Game of Crowns'. This huge 'chess board' fills a room and illustrates the power, influence and status of the various English kings and Welsh princes using height as a scale. By allowing visitors to move amongst the highly detailed figures, the subject naturally becomes more tangible and easier to understand.
