Portchester Castle

The impressive harbour setting and rich 2000-year history of Portchester Castle firmly establishes it as one of English Heritage’s best loved sites.  As such, Cod Steaks were pleased to be awarded design, build and install of the new interpretative works and permanent museum.

Extending across three floors of the magnificent keep, the exhibition focuses on the recently unearthed history of the castle’s use as an 18th Century prisoner-of-war detention centre between 1783 and 1814. The remarkable stories of the prisoners’ lives that unfolded from this research were subsequently captured by Cod Steaks and told through a series of informative and unique installations.

From a fully-functional Georgian theatre, replicating original construction and scenic details, to evocative sculptural works and a permanent museum, visitors are encouraged to explore themes through a variety of visual, tactile and audio mediums.
